about

In July 2001, LAPPELECTRO performed for the first time outside of Victoria at the Seattle WOMAD Festival. For this show, Daniel brought in sound sculpture guitarist, Justin Haynes from Toronto and went without DJ Kita Kaze, focussing instead on more spontaneity and less emphasis on the ‘dance’ vibe. But as anyone there can attest, LAPPELECTRO lit up the festival, displaying not only virtuosic improvisations but also a completely seductive dance vibe that left the many hundreds of new fans breathless and euphoric.

*NOTE: Lappelectro would like to dedicate this digital album release to the late, Justin Haynes (1973-2019) who left an indelible mark on this recording and on the Canadian music community.

Here are some quotes drawn from the numerous emails which LAPPELECTRO continued to receive months and even years after their now, legendary, WOMAD performance:

“We saw you at WOMAD in Seattle this weekend and must tell you that we are very excited about your music. As jazz fans and music fans in general your music speaks to us of discovery, adventure and new horizons. It seems to be a future of jazz in North America, a great new direction far away from the retro wave pushed by W. Marsalis.”
Chuan and Essie

“I saw you at WOMAD on Sat. I thought you were incredible, and lots of people I talked with Sat. night thought you were one of the best acts there. I wanted to pass along the praise.”
Laura

“I was shocked/amazed/thrilled/excited to see Lapp Electro for the first time. Honestly, you blew me away. The energy and innovation I felt at your performance was unlike anything I've felt before”
Mayana

“I am still buzzing about the show at Womad. It was truly beyond words. I am officially a fan for life.”
Kari
